Avaroc’s Return is a fantasy adventure for older children and young adults that returns the reader to Winterne Village and the Mendip Hills in Somerset. Ten years have passed from where the author left the story of the much loved elf and human characters. During those years, Queen Ellien’s uncle, Avaroc, has been outwardly supporting his niece’s rightful rule of the British elves, but all the while his obsessive greed has been burning.
Now his devious scheme to turn the elf clans against each other, and begin a war to weaken her rule, is almost complete and he will stop at nothing, including murder and kidnapping, to create despair to the elves of Winterne. Too late do the clan realise the truth, and tragedy leaves them heartbroken.
Far away from Winterne, a lonely mysterious young girl, who has out-of-body experiences, is spied on by a bird of prey. But what does she have to do with what is happening in Winterne? What part is she to play as Avaroc’s plans play out? And is everyone close to Avaroc trustworthy?
While the Winterne clan and their human comrades adjust to life without dearly loved friends and family, they must pit their strength against their most determined enemy. Much-loved characters Charlie Nowell, Halmar, Sam, Jenny, Morgan and others, unite to prevent the clans turning on each other causing further grief. Loyalties are tested to the limit and sometimes keeping your enemies close isn’t the best plan.
This is a story of treachery, discovery, redemption and how humans, elves and animals can unite to combat cruelty and malice.
While these books were originally written for older children and young adults, they have become crossover books that have been enjoyed by adults as well and have received excellent reviews from both readers and the media.
