Frankie quits her job, leaving no forwarding address, and is taken on by an agency to look after the vulnerable Merle Scott in her large house near Malvern. Little does she or sister Evelyn know that sparky, tough-talking Frankie, with her strange newborn doll, has her own sinister agenda: a wish to seek out the mother she never knew.

Frankie rid herself of step-sister Shannon in the river two years before, for a hurt that was one hurt too many. Now she has a shadow hindering her. Martin Webb, whose dream of joining the police force was thwarted by his father, is suspicious of Shannon’s disapperance. He has an instinct for solving crime and as he investigates further he senses that a killer has not covered all their tracks . . .

Sally Spedding was born near Porthcawl in Wales. She trained in sculpture in Manchester and at St Martin’s, London. After winning an international short story competition, she began writing seriously whilst also teaching full-time. Her work has won many awards, including the H.E. Bates Short Story Prize and the Anne Tibble Award for Poetry. She regularly adjudicates national writing competitions and teaches Creative Writing courses at Leicester University.
