Raised in Northamptonshire, England, Jack Slater is from a long line of farmers. He has had a varied career, working in farming, forestry, retail and biomedical science as well as spending five years as a service engineer, covering most of the UK.
He has been writing since childhood, completing his first novel at the age of seventeen. He came late to crime fiction, having read it for many years but never considered writing it until it was suggested by his editor, who appreciated his treatment of a secondary character in his thriller The Venus Flaw so much that she said, ‘You know, you ought to write crime.’
The DS Peter Gayle series is now in its 12th volume, having been taken on in 2016 by Harper Collins imprint HQ Digital. Several of the books in the series have reached the number one slot in their category on Kobo and do well on Amazon too, gaining five-star reviews.
